People move to Cochrane for room to breathe the foothills on the doorstep, acreages instead of cul-de-sacs, a town that still feels like a town. What often comes with that space is distance: from extended family, from old friendships, and from the kind of specialized care that clusters in cities.
Be Well Psychology sees Cochrane and area residents at our downtown Calgary office. It’s a real drive, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we offer in exchange is a full clinical team, no waitlist, and appointment times built for people who can’t make a weekday morning work. Adults, couples, families, teenagers, and young children are all welcome.
Isolation is easy to underestimate until you’re living inside it. Quiet mornings and open country are genuinely restorative right up until a hard stretch arrives and there’s nobody within ten minutes to sit with you through it. Some people arrive here after a loss, an injury, a business that didn’t hold, or a slow slide they can’t date the start of. Others carry something older that has waited years to surface. We work through anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and burnout using EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, ACT, and CBT matched to you rather than handed down as a protocol.
Rural and semi-rural life puts partners together constantly and alone often. A shop or a business run from the property, a spouse doing rotations while the other holds everything down, a farm or acreage that never really closes the relationship becomes another operational system, and eventually the only conversations left are logistical. Our couples work interrupts that. We address disconnection that accumulated without conflict, financial strain, differing visions for the years ahead, and resentment that has aged past its origin. Gottman Method and attachment-based approaches structure the sessions, so the hour isn’t just an argument with a witness.
Cochrane holds a real mix: multi-generational ranching families whose roots go back decades, and newer arrivals who came for the mountains and the lifestyle. Both encounter the same practical gap when a household needs help, the nearest options are limited and the next-nearest are in the city. We support families through grief and loss, a member’s illness or injury, separation and co-parenting across distance, conflict between generations who see the future differently, and the strain of caring for aging parents on a property that demands work. Sessions include whoever needs to be in the room.
Being a teenager in Cochrane can mean a genuinely good adolescence space, freedom, a licence at sixteen that actually means something. It can also mean a very small world. Limited options, limited anonymity, and limited youth mental health services within reach. Adolescents who don’t fit the local mould often feel that acutely, and those who are struggling frequently have nowhere to take it. We work with teens on anxiety, low mood, self-harm, substance use, emotional regulation, ADHD, and questions about who they are. Late-afternoon and weekend times exist because the drive from Cochrane is real.
For a Cochrane family, a child needing psychological support means an immediate logistical problem. Assessments, therapy, and specialized services sit in Calgary, waitlists there run long, and each appointment costs an afternoon. Meanwhile the school refusal, the night terrors, or the behaviour nobody can explain keeps going. Our child therapists work through play how children actually process alongside Triple P Positive Parenting for the adults doing the daily work. We help with anxiety, big emotions, behavioural concerns, ADHD, autism, grief, and adjustment. Given the distance, we make each session count and send you home with something to use.
A full team at the end of one drive. If you’re travelling anyway, travel once. Trauma, ADHD, couples, adolescents, and young children are all covered here a family isn’t piecing together three providers across two towns.
No waitlist. Not shorter. None. For families already told to wait months elsewhere for a child assessment or a first adult session, that’s often the deciding factor.
No referral needed. Alberta doesn’t require one. Book directly.
Registered psychologists. Our team holds registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
Times that suit a long drive. Mid-morning, midday, evening, and weekend appointments not just the 9 a.m. slot that costs you a full day.
Straightforward on cost. Sessions start at $235 per 60-minute hour, in line with the Psychological Association of Alberta’s recommended schedule. We don’t direct bill; you’ll receive a receipt with everything your insurer needs.

Be Well Psychology #1200, 630 6 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2P 1X4 · 403-829-8614
Roughly 35 to 45 minutes from Cochrane, depending on route and time of day.
The route: Highway 1A east, joining Highway 1 (16 Avenue) and continuing to Memorial Drive, then south into downtown. Coming from the south end or off Highway 22, Highway 1 east through Springbank is usually the faster line.
Timing: Eastbound is slow through the 7:00–8:30 a.m. window. Mid-morning onward moves well. Heading home, leave before 4:00 p.m. or after 6:00.
Parking: Paid parkades within a block of 6 Avenue SW.
Winter: The 1A through the Bow Valley corridor drifts and ices before city roads do. Build in extra time and call us if conditions turn.
That’s your call, and we’d rather you make it with accurate information. It’s 35 to 45 minutes each way, and there’s no waitlist at the other end. Many people find that a session available this week beats a local option available in three months but a free consultation will tell you more than we can here.
Ask us during the consultation. Session frequency is something we set together, and it varies considerably by person and by what you’re working on.
We offer psycho-educational, ADHD, cognitive, and diagnostic assessments alongside therapy which spares Cochrane families a second provider in a second location.
Call us. Our policy asks for 48 hours’ notice, but the Highway 1A in February is a legitimate conversation talk to us rather than not showing.
Yes. We see clients from across the region west of Calgary, not just within Cochrane town limits.
