CALGARY PSYCHOLOGISTS
BE WELL
Psychology
We offer in-person psychotherapy in Calgary so that you can get the best help from the therapy session.
Be Well Psychology is open during the day, evenings, and weekends so you can find a time that fits your schedule easily.
We can see you right away so you can start getting the support you need without any delay.
At Be Well, we embrace the essence of being over the hustle culture of constant doing. When we let go of unhelpful patterns rooted in shame, trauma, ego or faulty belief systems and learn to simply be, we unlock our natural flow toward doing and creating great things.
Alya takes a compassionate and trauma-informed approach to counselling, helping individuals navigate anxiety, trauma, and emotional disconnection. She creates a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard and understood, focusing on the root causes of distress rather than just symptom management. Using techniques such as trauma-informed cognitive therapies, mindfulness, and somatic approaches, she guides clients toward lasting healing and self-reconnection. In addition to her counselling work, Alya supports women struggling with disordered eating, rigid food rules, and the psychological factors contributing to amenorrhea (period loss). By addressing the emotional and cognitive patterns underlying restrictive behaviours, she helps clients cultivate a healthier, more balanced relationship with their bodies and eating habits, fostering recovery and overall well-being. Alya has also contributed to the intersection of mental health and physical well-being by playing a role in developing BioGut, an IBS and chronic illness-focused virtual mental health program/app. Her dedication to holistic care reflects her belief in the deep connection between mind and body, empowering clients to move forward with clarity and self-compassion as their guide.

I charge a fee of $235 for 60 minute sessions and $352.50 for 90 minute sessions. I do not charge GST. These fees are aligned with the Psychological Association of Alberta’s recommended fee schedule. Payment is due at the time of the session. I am currently only able to accept payment by credit card or debit card with credit capability.
I do not offer direct billing to insurance companies. Upon payment for your session you will receive a receipt with the necessary details to submit to your insurance. As a registered psychologist I should be covered by your insurance provider, but it is your responsibility to verify this.
This will vary person-to-person, but typically I recommend meeting weekly or every second week to start. Then, once you have accumulated some tools and are starting to feel more empowered, we can switch to meeting less frequently. I see the merit in maintenance work, meaning sessions that are designed to keep the good things rolling, rather than only meeting when things are bad. With that said, my goal at the end of the day is for you to not need me anymore.
The number of sessions needed varies on a case by case basis, but generally you should expect to notice a change after 6-8 sessions. I believe in providing tools, psychoeducation, and input to leave you better than I found you rather than just listening. With that said, the majority of change takes place outside of session, so it will be your job to do the work to reap the maximum benefits of therapy. I provide an Open Door Policy to all of my clients, meaning that you can always come back to me, without shame, even after wrapping up our work. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and providing a secure base to all of my clients should they wish to return at any point throughout their life.
In the first session you can expect us to go over informed consent and cover a broad overview of who you are and what is bringing you in. We will discuss your history as well as your present-day life. Based on the information you share, we can discuss your goals and formulate a treatment plan.
Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Your doctor can help you with this, and may refer you to a psychiatrist if necessary.
That’s perfectly okay! Therapy is a process of self-exploration, so it may take time for themes and growth areas to reveal themselves. If you are willing to look inward, I will facilitate conversations and ask questions that will take you deeper into self-awareness and understanding. Through this process, you may discover growth areas or things you wish to work on.
In therapy, the focus will be fully on you. A therapist won’t give biased advice or project their own opinion, rather, they will support you in finding your own answers. Unlike talking or venting to a friend, therapy uses personalized, targeted, evidence-based techniques and approaches to help with the issues bringing you in. The therapy process is designed to build your own awareness of your thoughts, emotions and behaviours, which we don’t always get with friends and family. Finally, your therapist may suggest tasks or actionable things to practice between sessions that go beyond simply talking for the allotted session time.
The free 20-minute consultation is meant to help us determine if we click and both feel like we are a good match to proceed with working together. It is a great time to ask me questions as well as to tell me a little bit about what is bringing you in and what you are seeking from therapy.
We work with individuals, couples, teens and older adults who reside within Alberta.
Cancellations made 48 hours or less before an appointment will be subject to a late-cancellation fee in the amount of the full session fee.
We look forward to your return visits. Book online if you want the most choice and fastest confirmation. Alternatively, email me or call me and leave a message.
